About Us
At Inprentus, we advance precision optics through innovative blazed diffraction gratings technology. Our team designs and manufactures custom diffraction gratings engineered for high efficiency, accuracy, and optical performance across industries including synchrotron and FEL research, semiconductor manufacturing, augmented reality, spectroscopy, and government applications. With proprietary nano-scale lithography technologies and rigorous metrology, Inprentus delivers optics built to meet the most demanding scientific and commercial requirements.
Founded in Champaign, Illinois in 2012 by University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign physics professor Peter Abbamonte, Inprentus began with a vision to commercialize a new approach to nano-scale lithography and mechanical ruling. What started as university research has grown into a precision optics company serving synchrotron facilities, semiconductor manufacturers, augmented reality developers, government laboratories, and advanced research intuitions around the world. Through continued innovation in blazed diffraction grating design and manufacturing, Inprentus has helped push the limits of optical performance, customization, and efficiency for next-generation scientific and commercial applications.
SBIR/STTR Heritage
Inprentus’ early technology development was supported by the U.S. SBIR program, including NSF Phase I and Phase II awards for a novel method of manufacturing ultra-precise diffraction gratings for X-ray analysis and imaging. This SBIR history reflects federal validation of Inprentus’ core manufacturing approach and its continued path toward commercialization.
Phase III / Commercialization Heritage: Inprentus has continued advancing SBIR-supported grating manufacturing technology into commercial and government applications.
